week 7
assignment 1
article 1
I found the article "Theories and practices of multi model education" really interesting and enlightening. Multi model text shifts the texts to be more socially dynamic. The words are no longer the only focus in the book, the text size, font, and illustrations add their own meaning too. This adds new tasks for the teaches. The teachers must provide their students with proper resources of multi model text. They must explore the text together and assist their students in creating their own multi-model text by providing feedback. I hop to implicate this idea of multi model text in my own curriculum. Being that our children are growing up in a technologically centered world. They are used to everything colorful and exciting. Teaching literature in such a fashion will assist students in obtaining the proper skills yet in an exciting and stimulating fashion.
article 2
Second life seems like a fascinating program. It is a multi user virtual environment where students from all over can be connected and go on a virtual journey together. I wish to explore this program in greater detail and see how to implicate it appropriately into my curriculum. As the article mentioned this is a skill that the teachers and students have to be trained in before using this program to enhance the learning environment. With the proper training this program will bring the learning and comprehension to whole new level. As they say, A picture is worth thousands words -compare that to virtually being there!
assignment 2
Second life can be an extremely useful and helpful in an ELA classroom tool. Many times when students read or learn about something it can be distant to them making the concept hard to comprehend. Through second life students can really visualize the concepts and comprehend the matter in a much deeper sense. For example before reading about a town in Europe where students have never heard of they can virtually visit this town aiding their comprehension of the story plot and setting.
