week 2
assignment 1
The Common Core State Standards are a clear set of shared goals and expectations for the knowledge and skills students need in English language arts and mathematics at each grade level so they can be prepared to succeed in college, career, and life. These standards are accepted by many states thereby making the educational system unified. The common core standards are made by educational experts and are created to prepare students in the proper way to succeed in life. These standards help give each child the power and opportunity to receive a proper education so that they can reach far in life. Hopefully these sets of standards will be accepted by all states unifying the educational system countrywide.
assignment 2
Literacy is the skill of reading and writing. Literacy is the foundation of all education. Becoming literate is a process its not something you can master in just one day. In grades pre1 till fifth grade there is one teacher responsible to provide her students with theses skills From grades 6-12 literacy skills are a part of every content area and of course language arts class. It is the job of a teacher to infuse excitement in their lessons in order to give their students a love and passion for reading. Fascinating articles, spellbound stories and astonishing facts aid teachers to bring about this love for the written word for all their students. In school we had countless reading and writing assignments over the years forcing us to practice what we learned and perfecting our skills. There is always more to learn I constantly find myself picking up new words and expressions from books I read and classes I hear. There are five major components of ELA instruction the first being reading. Reading simply is the ability to articulate each letter sound to form words. Reading branches out further into comprehension and understanding of what was read. The next component is writing which is the ability to formulate your thought into letters so that it is legible for others to read. Writing can be divided into argumentative, persuasive, descriptive, narrative, and informative. The third component is speaking and listening which is expressing oneself orally. Sometimes people can accomplish more by listening. Finally comes language, which is the skill where children build their vocabulary to include terminology such as phrases and terms that are specific for certain areas of education. Technology integration can be helpful to acquiring all components of literacy. Videos, E-books and many websites are focused on bringing about these skills.
